Friday the 13th Where to Stream Starz The grandaddy of the killer summer camp films, Friday the 13th is a derivative but fun bit tale of horny teens who are all played by 30-somethings being picked off one by one for their transgressions. While the Fear Street movies draw more on the Friday sequels, what with their masked summer camp killer, the original is still a treat. Ginger Snaps Where to Stream Shudder, Tubi As if being a teenager wasn't hard enough, Ginger Snaps finds high schooler Ginger Katharine Isabelle dealing with becoming a werewolf, much to the chagrin of her sister Emily Perkins. The werewolf stuff is used as a clever stand-in for the horrors and confusions of puberty, and Isabelle and Perkins are both pitch-perfect in their respective roles. Goosebumps Where to Rent Amazon $ Apple TV $ Vudu $ Stine's Fear Street books were aimed at teens, but the books that really put him on the map were, of course, his Goosebumps series. And while the Goosebumps movie is geared towards younger viewers, it's still a lot of fun. In fact, it's way more fun than I expected it to be. Here, Jack Black plays a stuffy Stine who has to deal with the creatures from his books suddenly coming to life. This one has a lovely little Amblin vibe going for it. Halloween Where to Stream Shudder, The Roku Channel I mean, obviously. If you're making a slasher movie you're immediately paying some sort of tribute to John Carpenter's immortal classic Halloween. While I don't think Fear Street feels particularly Halloween-y, the Halloween influences are there, particularly in the flashes of jumpsuited killer milkman Harry Rooker. Happy Death Day Where to Stream FX Now The second Christopher Landon movie on this list after Freaky, Happy Death Day is a mash-up of slasher pic and time loop movie. Jessica Rothe who is phenomenal here and should be in more things is a smug college student who finds herself living the same day – her birthday – over and over again. That's bad enough on its own, but to make matters worse, she finds herself targeted by a masked killer on that same day. I personally think the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, is even better. But that movie leaves the slasher element mostly behind, so I'd say those looking for more Fear Street-like thrills should check out the first film. Honeymoon Where to Stream Kanopy, Tubi Before she made Fear Street, director Leigh Janiak burst onto the scene with Honeymoon. This nasty piece of work finds recently married couple Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway having their honeymoon getaway go right to hell after a series of strange events. I'm being vague here because I'm pretty sure most people haven't seen this one, and the less you know going in, the more effective Honeymoon ends up being. I Know What You Did Last Summer Where to Stream HBO Max I Know What You Did Last Summer had the luck of both coming on the heels of Scream, and boasting the same screenwriter, Kevin Williamson. It's not nearly as good, though. In fact, I'd say I Know What You Did Last Summer has aged rather poorly and only gotten worse with age. But because of its close proximity with Scream, it feels essential to the '90s slasher revival boom, and thus, I'm adding it to this list. You know the story terrible teens kill someone in a hit and run and then find themselves targeted by a killer in a rain slicker. It Where to Stream HBO Max Fear Street, which is ultimately the story of a cursed town and the generational tragedies that befall it, owes a huge debt to Stephen King's It. Which makes the 2017 film adaptation from director Andy Muschietti perfect for this list. Here, a group of seven young friends finds themselves targeted by a supernatural clown with a hunger for the flesh of kids. Big, loud, and not afraid to wear its emotions on its sleeve, It is a damn fine adaptation. You should probably avoid It Chapter 2, though. Monster House Where to Stream Netflix A nice little Halloween treat, the animated Monster House may not have the best computer animation, but this movie has heart, damn it! A group of kids realize a scary-looking house in their town is actually alive – so what do they do? Go inside, of course. This one feels like it was pulled from the pages of Stine's Goosebumps. The New World Where to Rent Google Play, YouTube, Vudu $ The New World is, obviously, not a horror movie. But director Leigh Janiak has said she drew upon the film when making Fear Street Part 3 1666. And she's not kidding, either – there are shots of nature here that look like they're direct copies of scenes from Terrence Malick's masterpiece. Malick's film is the story of John Smith and Pocahontas, and while it plays fast and loose with the facts, there's a gorgeous realism to everything here, making this one of Malick's best works. Best of all, this was still part of the period where Malick's movies told stories instead of just acting as a collection of abstract scenes. ParaNorman Where to Stream Netflix ParaNorman, from the fine folks at Laika, almost feels like Fear Street For Kids. The story follows a kid who can see ghosts and how he and his friends set out to stop a curse in their town. Like Fear Street, the town's curse is blamed on the actions of a witch – but there's more to the story than meets the eye. Scream Where to Stream HBO Max Scream didn't invent the slasher movie, but it certainly gave it a new lease on life. In the '90s, slasher films were primarily considered by non-horror fans, at least to be bottom-of-the-barrel junk. Then along came Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, who used the familiar tropes and trappings from the sub-genre and worked them into something immensely clever and entertaining. What's your favorite scary movie? Sleepaway Camp Where to Stream Shudder, Tubi The very trashy summer camp slasher Sleepaway Camp is probably more famous or really, infamous for its shocking final twist. And I'm not going to give away that twist in case you haven't seen it. Just know that it hasn't exactly aged well! The plot, such as it is, has a young girl going off to summer camp where – wouldn't ya know it? – people start turning up dead. The Witch Where to Stream Showtime, Kanopy One of the best horror movies of the 21st century, Robert Eggers' beautiful, haunting The Witch has a family in 1600s New England terrorized by dark forces lurking in the woods surrounding their home. Full of hysteria and supernatural dread, The Witch is a must-watch.

Here’s the basic premise, according to Netflix In 1994, a group of teenagers discovers that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations ​may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets. Based on Stine’s best selling horror series, the trilogy follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history. Each film will cover a different time period. The first will take place in 1994, while the sequels will explore 1978 and — of course — 1666. The Fear Street books originally debuted back in 1989 and served as a more teenage-oriented counterpart to the blockbuster and hugely influential Goosebumps series, which helped make Stine a household name. For horror fans, the killings are more frequent and “Whoa”-inducing. The filmmakers, led by trilogy director and co-writer Leigh Janiak, cinematographer Caleb Heymann and Scott Kuzios production design team, capture the late-'70s summer haze of the films to which they’re paying tribute, aided by music supervision that gleefully sinks its teeth into the era. Co-lead Sadie Sink notably crafts a rebellious girl with believable emotions, attractions and loyalties as one of the teen Berman sisters. More importantly, in this second film, the series’ themes are coming into focus. The Shadyside/Sunnyvale class divide introduced in the first installment takes on clearer contours, which will pay off in the third movie. The persistence of strong female leads and bonds of sisterhood here, literally also delineate the gendered commentary of the trilogy — something that will also be elevated in the final episode. “Fear Street Part 2 1978" is no classic, but it’s a clear improvement on “1994,” with more tension and excitement and generous gore. Après un retour au présent servant à confronter la survivante brisée par ces événements aux questions des héros du premier film en peu de temps à l'écran, l'interprétation de Gillian Jacobs parvient à marquer les esprits avec ce personnage à jamais prisonnier de ses traumatismes, les souvenirs de cette inconnue vont comme prévu nous faire remonter le temps dans un univers de colonie de vacances évidemment inspiré de la saga "Vendredi 13" mais qui se doit aussi d'apporter du grain à moudre à la mythologie surnaturelle mise en place dans le premier volet. Seulement là où "Fear Street 1994" nous avait immédiatement embarqué par la frénésie de son rythme et l'effet de surprise provoqué par la dimension fantastique qu'il mêlait au slasher traditionnel, la mise en place de ce camp d'été en 1978 et de ses protagonistes va avoir bien plus de mal à retrouver la même énergie. Malgré une panoplie d'artifices très similaires dans le traitement l'approche un peu décalée, le caractère vif des dialogues collant de manière idoine à la cruauté de ces jeunes qui ne mâchent pas leurs mots ou la bonne d'époque balancée à la façon d'un juke-box incontrôlable, "Fear Street 1978" se retrouve un bon moment écartelé entre l'obligation de présenter ce nouvel univers, ainsi que les multiples conflits qui le gouvernent, et la nécessité de rappeler certains éléments de l'histoire déjà installés comme le passif des rivalités de cette communauté divisée ou les éléments d'époque de la fait beaucoup et sans doute trop pour l'exposition d'un tel slasher et, même si, grâce à cette ambition, "Fear Street 1978" parvient malgré tout à développer son propre ton et la spécificité de ses héros dans ce cadre pourtant très référentiel de Vendredi 13-like, le film n'évite pas l'écueil de la redite quand il s'attarde sur les fondations de sa mythologie préétablie. En ce sens, le curieux choix de séparer longuement certains personnages, et par cet intermédiaire établir une frontière entre l'exploration de l'aspect surnaturel de l'intrigue et ses conséquences de slasher classique, ne sera pas l'option la plus habile pour permettre au film d'affirmer une exubérance aussi directe que le précédent. Car c'est en effet bien dans leur mélange des genres que les "Fear Street" sont décidément les plus jouissifs !Une fois que ce deuxième volet se décide véritablement à faire percuter ensemble toutes les facettes de son récit, sa narration retrouve soudain la même fougue attractive que "Fear Street 1994", le surpassant même parfois dans ses éclats de violence les plus inattendus on regrettera néanmoins que le choix osé de prendre parfois pour cible des enfants se traduisent par des meurtres hors du champ de la caméra, notre attachement à ses héroïnes les développements autour de la relation difficile entre les deux sœurs sont notamment très bien exploités et les trouvailles pour maximiser sans cesse la montée en puissance d'un danger que rien ne semble décidément pouvoir arrêter. De plus, ce récit en 1978 s'achèvera sur une séquence d'une étonnante noirceur, traduisant avec une terrible justesse graphique toute l'ampleur de la tragédie personnelle en train de se jouer pour les victimes en son cœur, et apportera bien entendu des éléments de réponse sur la manière de résoudre la situation du présent qui, elle, sera relancée par un twist certes facile mais réellement alléchant quant à la direction très différente choisie pour le troisième et dernier film. En définitive, malgré des maladresses de départ plus importantes, "Fear Street 1978" parvient à conserver le même capital de sympathie instauré par son confrère de 1994 tout en évoluant dans un contexte différent qui témoigne à nouveau d'un respect et d'un amour sincère des classiques du genre. Certes, tout ce qui concerne la malédiction au sein de la saga apparaît encore assez futile pour engendrer une totale adhésion au-delà d'une amusante revisite du slasher en général mais ce prétexte scénaristique est utilisé à bon escient afin de permettre à la trilogie de se renouveler de film en film à travers des variations n'oubliant jamais la simplicité généreuse que peut représenter ce type divertissement à mi-chemin entre pure nostalgie et relecture moderne. On sera là pour le troisième film, à ne pas en douter. Deuxième volet de la saga. "Fear Street 1978" s’avère même être encore mieux que le précédent ! C’est beaucoup mieux construit, plus sympathique à suivre même si le premier était une bonne surprise. Extrêmement ravi de voir Sadie Sink dans un tel rôle, ça la change de Stranger Things » Douée et de la gueule ! J’ai même beaucoup aimé sa sœur dans le film. Le retournement de situation à la fin est très sympathique. Ce qui rend le dénouement pas si prévisible que ce qu’ont pensé. Encore heureux de voir qu’il y ait des réalisations aussi soignées et cohérentes dans ce domaine. Cela faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas vu un aussi bon slasher ! C’est gore, l’ambiance est macabre, et l’idée du camp de vacances comme lieu de crime colle tellement bien ! Et on retiendra bien évidemment la bande sonore qui est juste excellente ! Réalisé par Leigh Janiak qui s'inspire du livre de le film est une réussite, en effet les acteurs jouent bien leurs rôles notamment Emily Rudd et nous transmettent leurs peurs qui nous placent dans une ambiance morbide, le film aurait bien pu avoir sa place en rend hommage au célèbre film "Vendredi 13"camp de vacances, tueurs et d'autres références sont concept de nous ramener dans le passé, pour comprendre la malédiction de la sorcière , a travers une histoire racontée par une victime est génial ! on retrouve le tueur a la hache et comment il est devenu comme ça, des éléments par rapport a la sorcière nous est révélés et des personnages comme le shérif sont développés. Personnellement je préfère le premier volet car il me parle beaucoup plus, l'époque se rapproche plus de la nôtre, le lycée et la romance qui m'a fait attacher aux que le deuxième volet les personnages morts ne me manque absolument la fin du film nous avons un "to be continued" qui me donne énormément envie de voir le troisième volet car nous retrouverons les personnages décédés, GENIAL ! Et l'intrigue continuera avec eux ! Exellent film d'horreur, ne PASSEZ pas votre chemin ! Je m'empresse de voir la suite ; Retour en arrière sur un événement survolé dans le volet précédent !! les bases étant en place , on rentre de suite dans l'ambiance avec des explications et également des mystères !! Le casting reste intéressant pour ce genre de film même si par moment un peu caricatural !! Le 1er tiers est un peu longuet sans être ennuyeux mais le reste du film est de bonne facture avec des scènes angoissante et très violentes encore une fois Après un premier épisode plutôt sympathique, cette suite ne suit malheureusement pas le même chemin. Le script est trop monotone et sans surprise pour convaincre. Ennuyeux. Cette fois la saga lorgne sur les slashers des années 80, "Vendredi 13" en second volet est un peu plus réussi que le premier, probablement grâce aux personnages bien plus attachants et à l'humour plus judicieuse. Absolument rien d'original mais divertissant. J'ai trouvé ce second volet de la trilogie plutôt sympa. Je ne me suis pas pris de claque, c'est plutôt classique avec une bonne ambiance de slasher old school et de fantastique mais ça se suit avec plaisir. Dommage qu'il y ait quelques longueurs au début et que la prise de risques soit limité. Je dois dire que je suis surprise car les suites sont en général moins bonnes sauf qq exceptions. Ce second volet est bien mieux construit et bcp plus sympa que le premier. L'histoire se tient et même si les clichés sont légion, je trouve que le rythme est bon, les effets aussi. Attendons de voir la suite... J'était déjà été échaudé par le premier volet de cette trilogie, mais là c'est encore moins bon que le premier. J'abandonne là la trilogie de ce qui n'aurait dû tenir qu'en un seul et unique film avec des aller-retour temporels. Ils ont voulu allonger la sauce et c'est à mon avis une grave erreur, surtout pour un film de genre. C'est raté! Avant le retour aux sources attendu, ce deuxième volet de la trilogie "Fear Street" nous propose un retour dans le passé, en 1978, à l'époque du carnage dans ce camp d'été qui a déjà été évoquée dans le premier film avec l'introduction de C. Berman, l'unique survivante du massacre et de la sorcière. Alors que Deena et son frère cherchent des réponses, cela passe par le récit de cette longue et sanglante nuit. "1978" est une partie vraiment différente de la première que ce soit dans la manière dont elle est pensée ou exécutée. "1994" était un slasher assez fun qui allait droit au but, une sorte d'introduction efficace avant quelque chose de plus sérieux et développé. Cette seconde partie, qui a des airs de "Friday the 13th" repose sur une intrigue mieux construite faisant sans cesse le parallèle entre les deux périodes et des personnages plus attachants et un peu plus étoffés. Entre horreur et drame, la malédiction évoquée est à double sens et ne se limite pas à cette vendetta puisqu'il est également question de cette envie d'ailleurs et de cette peur de rester toute sa vie dans ce trou que plusieurs personnages ont partagé dans les deux films. Dans l'ensemble, j'ai apprécié ce second film autant que le premier, mais pas pour les mêmes raisons. C'est moins fun et plus répétitif, mais l'histoire qui se dessine peu à peu est intéressante. Avec son camp de vacances estivales, sa série de meurtres sanglants gratuits et son ton entre frissons et humour noir, cette suite assume d’être un slasher bien gras. Les personnages y sont encore plus bêtes et dégénérés que dans l’épisode précédent et les voir se faire massacrer a quelque chose de la réjouissance malsaine. Après une bonne première partie, cette deuxième allait-elle confirmer ? Et bien oui, l'histoire s'étoffe, le film gagne une véritable identité tant sur le plan scénaristique que visuel. Même si le film n'est pas effrayant, c'est vraiment sympa à suivre, toujours bien filmé et joué, En route pour le troisième épisode. On y est presque ! La réalisatrice Leigh Janiak inconnue en ce qui me concerne tient fermement sa bonne idée et ne lâche rien dans cette deuxième partie. Du coup on se retrouve projeté au cœur d'un horrible camp d'été pour ados Américains... qu'on croirait tout juste sorti de la saga Vendredi 13 ». Évidemment un redoutable tueur à la hache rôde dans les parages et il y a fort à parier qu'il à mis de la viande à son menu. Bien sûr, l'originalité n'est pas vraiment au rendez-vous, pas plus que la profondeur philosophique, je le reconnais sans peine. Ceci dit, l'ambiance est immersive et la tension suffisamment travaillée pour qu'on reste concentré. De plus, le scénario colle à la première partie en conservant l'histoire de la sorcière comme fil rouge. Le résultat est tout à fait à la hauteur et il me tarde vraiment de découvrir le troisième et dernier film pour clôturer de la plus belle des façons cette belle initiative signée Netflix. Une nouvelle fois réalisée par Leigh Janiak et sortie en 2021 sur Netflix, cette seconde partie de la trilogie "Fear Street" est décevante, enfin en tout cas de mon point de vue. Autant, j'ai apprécié la première partie que je trouvais originale tout en remettant au goût du jour le slasher, mais alors, j'ai eu beaucoup plus de mal avec cette seconde partie ! Ce film est donc la suite directe du premier et nous retrouvons ainsi les survivants du premier se rendant chez la fameuse survivante du massacre de 1978. À travers un très long flashback qui compose le film donc, nous allons suivre son aventure au Camp Nightwing. Comme vous l'aurez sans doute compris, cette suite s'inscrit cette fois-ci dans la longue lignée des slashers de camp de vacance dont la plus connue est bien-sûr "Vendredi 13". D'ailleurs, même le tueur du film fait référence à Jason, enfin surtout le Jason du "Tueur de vendredi", en arborant un sac à patate sur la tête. Comme dans la première partie, j'ai trouvé que le film était long à se mettre en place ! De plus ici, on nous rabâche encore cette histoire de sorcière, on fait connaissance avec un nouveau groupe de jeunes et on est encore une fois confronté à deux anciennes amies qui se font la gueules puis qui se rabibochent par la force des choses. Ainsi, même si on change de cadre, on nous ressert un peu la même soupe ! C'est certes le principe d'un sous-genre comme le slasher de tourner en rond et de nous resservir les mêmes ingrédients mais le faire d'une manière aussi grossière, surtout dans une suite directe sortie une semaine après le premier, c'est un peu limite. Et puis, malheureusement, même une fois que l'histoire décolle vraiment, c'est-à-dire lorsque Tommy devient possédé, et bien, elle manque cruellement de rythme ! En effet, entre suivre les deux anciennes potes crapahuter dans la grotte et la pseudo-romance entre Ziggy et Nick, on n'assiste finalement qu'à peu de meurtres. Ils sont certes bien gores mais le film, bien qu'il appuie ses références, reste trop conventionnel pour en être véritablement captivant. Ce qu'avait pourtant admirablement évité de faire le premier ! Ainsi, on n'accordera finalement que très peu d'intention à cet ersatz moderne de "Vendredi 13" et on finira par sombrer dans l'ennui, malgré quelques bonnes idées. Voici le second volet de cette trilogie horrifique annoncée. Après un hommage à Scream » et aux films de possession dans la première mouture, ce Fear Street, 1978 » revient à rebours dans la temporalité du projet et rend clairement hommage à Vendredi 13 » au point que cela en devienne presque un remake. On n’est fort heureusement toujours pas dans le plagiat car le fait d’avoir une ligne conductrice et une mythologie sur les trois films l’en empêche. Cependant, tout cela reste très prévisible de par la proposition artistique de base. On a l’impression que la trame de ce slasher culte est ici reprise tel quel avec comme seuls ajouts les éléments destinés à densifier l’intrigue s’étalant sur les trois opus. On est donc jamais surpris, en terrain connu, mais amusé de retrouver ce type de tueur vintage et ses victimes, ici un peu moins sottes qu’à l’ plaisir de retrouver certains acteurs de Stranger Things » tout comme les décors, dont le fameux centre commercial de la troisième saison, est bien présent. On sent également que Leigh Janiak est un fan du genre et qu’il croque ces histoires avec passion et respect mais il manque un peu d’originalité à tout cela. Le souci majeur de ce second opus demeure le même que pour Fear Street, 1994 » on n’a absolument pas peur. Pas une seule fois ce film ne nous fera sursauter. On a encore l’impression d’être dans une version édulcorée et adolescente de ces films cultes à l’époque. Et il manque clairement de gore et de scènes de meurtres originales, chose que, par exemple, le film de body swatching Freaky » avait su nous offrir il y a quelques mois en dépit de sa qualité toute relative. Bref, c’est sympathique mais c’est davantage l’ensemble de l’œuvre mais attendons le dernier qui rend ce projet original et ludique.
